What is MVHR?
Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery is a way of providing constant background ventilation in your home (meeting part F Building Regulations), without losing significant heat energy.
Warm, moist air is extracted from kitchens, bathrooms, utilities and WCs and sent to the air handling unit. At the same time, fresh air from outside is sent to the unit. The heat is exchanged and fresh, filtered air (now warmed) is sent to your habitable spaces, while the stale air (now cooled) is sent outside.
There is now no need for trickle vents, loud intermittent fans, or even the need to open your windows (though you can if you like). This means you save a fairly significant amount of heat energy over the year, and you have a permanently fresh indoor environment which is optimal for the occupants and the fabric of the building itself.
